• KPIT’s end-to-end validation platform, known as KSIL to leverage Microsoft AI platform to streamline the virtual simulation for automakers
  • KPIT to adopt Microsoft reference architecture AVOps to leverage the capabilities of Microsoft Cloud and Azure OpenAI Service

Pune, India | Novi, United States | Munich, Germany | Tokyo, Japan | 22nd Feb 2024:
KPIT announces a collaboration with Microsoft to bring the power of Microsoft Cloud including Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service to accelerate the journey of automakers towards higher autonomy levels.

Today the automotive industry is facing major roadblocks to achieve feature maturity of autonomous vehicles. It typically requires massive testing to bring an autonomous vehicle to the road so that all the autonomous functions can perform as expected in all possible scenarios, including the critical scenarios. Virtual simulation has been helpful in streamlining these efforts to some extent. However, analyzing millions of test results accurately poses an additional challenge for automakers.

The future of autonomous vehicle testing lies in the seamless integration of generative AI with virtual simulation, which can enhance testing accuracy by zeroing down on critical scenarios. This collaborative effort brings together the expertise and resources of KPIT and the advanced capabilities of Microsoft Cloud including Azure OpenAI brought out by Microsoft AVOps reference architecture, leading to numerous benefits for automakers.

Improved quality of test– AI-powered simulation and testing can expose the areas for improvement, leading to higher safety and reliability.
Accelerated testing – AI-driven testing can significantly reduce the time and effort of auto manufacturers.
Improve validation coverage – With AI in virtual simulation, focused testing can be done, and more critical areas can be identified, which can eventually result in better coverage of corner cases and reduced accidents on the road.

KPIT has been a partner for multiple Software-defined Vehicle programs. It is collaborating with Microsoft on multiple areas for technology innovation in mobility. KPIT enabling the AD/ADAS feature extension on the Cloud as Out-car applications leveraging Microsoft AVOps reference architecture capabilities including Azure OpenAI Service integration for vehicle diagnosis are cases in point.

Commenting on this collaboration, Mr. Anup Sable, CTO of KPIT Technologies, said,

“We have noticed that the journey towards higher autonomy levels is seeing stagnation. Inadequate coverage of test cases is a key concern. We believe that KSIL, powered by AI and Microsoft reference architecture AVOps, can bring tremendous value to the virtual simulation efforts of the OEMs and prove to be a key milestone towards L3 autonomy. We also share a common vision with Microsoft towards SDV and working on many cutting-edge technologies in that direction.”

Commenting on this collaboration, Audrey Colle, GM of Mobility and Manufacturing in Microsoft, said,

“We are pleased to collaborate with KPIT to offer a state-of-the-art solution for the validation of autonomous vehicles. By leveraging Microsoft’s reference architecture AVOps, KPIT can take advantage of the capabilities of the Microsoft Cloud including Azure OpenAI Service.  KPIT aims to help automakers accelerate and optimize the testing and verification of automated driving systems. We share a common vision with KPIT towards software-defined vehicles and are working on many cutting-edge technologies in that direction. This collaboration will enable safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility solutions for the future.”
